Editor’s Note: As the Christmas season approaches, let’s reflect on the joy that comes from connecting with Divinity and discovering our true purpose. Whether Christian, Jewish, or from other faiths, this joy is found in knowing who we are, why we’re here, and embracing freedom, choice, and new beginnings. Inspired by my book Create The Vitality You Crave: Epigenetics 101 to Unlock Your Healing Power, these principles help align your spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being for true vitality.

As we approach the special holidays, a time filled with lights, music, and celebration, it’s essential to reflect on the deeper meaning behind our festivities. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other spiritual occasion, the essence of this season can be encapsulated in one word: Joy. This joy transcends religious boundaries and speaks to the universal human experience of seeking and finding a closer connection to the Divine.

I know that as I have enjoyed fun holiday festivities, with lots of music, my soul is touched and I experience the true JOY of the season when all of the music, the lights, the traditions bring me to rejoice in the “reason for the season”. Understanding who we are and why we are here, and our identity as children of God, is the foundation of true joy. Recognizing that we are not merely physical beings but also spiritual ones allows us to tap into a profound source of joy, giving us a sense of peace and fulfillment that no earthly success can provide. This season, let us embrace the joy that comes from knowing who we are, doing what it takes to draw closer to God and Christ, and learning to “Hear Him”, exercising our freedom and choices, embracing change, and welcoming new beginnings. Spread love, peace, and kindness, and celebrate the universal values that bind us together.

The Joy of Knowing Who We Are

Understanding who we are and why we are here is the foundation of true joy. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often lose sight of our spiritual identity. The holidays offer a precious opportunity to reconnect with our inner selves and the Divine. This connection provides a sense of purpose and belonging that goes beyond material possessions or worldly achievements.

When we recognize that we are not merely physical beings but also spiritual ones, we tap into a profound source of joy. This joy stems from the realization that we are part of something greater, something eternal. The pure JOY that stems from knowing, deep in our bones, that we are indeed children of God. That He is indeed not only aware of us, but involved in the daily miracles in our lives. I have had SO many evidences of His hand in my life, in fact, so many recently, that it is undeniable that is loves ME and is in the details orchestrating my life. This knowledge gives me, and can give all of us a sense of peace and fulfillment that no earthly success can provide.

To rediscover your spiritual identity, consider daily meditation, journaling, and engaging with a faith community. Spend a few minutes each day in quiet reflection, focusing on your breath and your connection to the Divine. Writing down your thoughts and experiences can provide clarity and insight, while being part of a community offers support and encouragement. Each morning, I start my day connecting with God in prayer and meditation, as well as reading scripture and recovery quotes. This morning, I added a new ritual. I bought a new journal to record thoughts from God as I start my day. I have set a 1 minute “floor” to connect with him, yet can listen, and write longer if I desire. Today, I was amazed at the message he shared to soothe my soul from the thoughts and feelings I was processing yesterday. Again, nothing in this world can bring more JOY than knowing that HE is there embracing me and so aware of me, as his daughter. In fact, all of the blessings and joy that I experience in my life are a direct result of my relationship with my Father in Heaven, my Savior – the Reason for the Season, and the companionship, even partnership, that I have with the Holy Spirit.

Take the time to connect with Them!

Recognizing the Divinity Nature of others

The holidays are also a time to recognize the Divine spark in those around us. Each person we encounter—whether a beloved family member, a stranger in the checkout line, or someone we find difficult to love—carries within them a piece of divinity. They too have a divine birthright and are worthy of our best care! By pausing for a moment to truly see others, to look beyond their actions and into their hearts, we can discover the sacred in our relationships. This simple yet profound act not only enriches our own joy but also uplifts those we acknowledge with love and respect.

Imagine gathering with loved ones this season and taking a moment to see them not just as they are today but as the Divine sees them—full of potential, love, and worth. By choosing to view others with this perspective, we open ourselves to greater compassion, deeper connections, and shared joy. When we reflect on this divinity in others, we can’t help but feel an increase in the joy that binds us together. We indeed can bring “Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men”! Let us celebrate this season by honoring the light in one another, spreading kindness, and lifting each other up in love and peace. In doing so, we reflect the essence of God’s love and experience the fullness of joy He desires for all of us.

Conclusion

As we celebrate this season of joy, let us hold close the truth of our own divine nature and the divine light that shines in those around us. Knowing who we are—children of God, cherished and guided by His hand—grounds us in a joy that transcends the hustle and bustle and fleeting moments of life. This knowledge fills our hearts with peace and purpose, allowing us to face each day with hope and gratitude.

At the same time, let us extend this recognition to others, celebrating their divinity and honoring the sacredness of our shared humanity. In seeing the light of God in one another, we create bonds of love, compassion, and unity that enrich our lives and magnify the joy of the season. May we carry this awareness into the new year, choosing to embrace our divine identity and nurture the divine in others, spreading light and love wherever we go. For it is in this shared celebration of divinity that we find the truest joy—the joy of connection, purpose, and eternal love.
